On Friday afternoon George Sr.'s brother and sister-in-law (Bucky and Patty Bush) came by to see the house, which they were renting right after us. They were most gracious, called ahead to see if we would mind, since they were planning for guests and a dinner party and weren't sure how well stocked the house was and what they would need to buy. We had a very nice conversation while they were there and I asked if they would like me to leave the milk, butter, condiments etc, which they were most delighted to have. I asked if they'd like the hot dogs as well and I was assured they wouldn't go to waste. (The family had plenty of hot dog eaters.)
I mentioned the lack of cell phone service to the agent who accompanied them and she told me it was blocked by the Secret Service for security reasons, which is exactly what I thought.
Another tidbit, Neil Bush, who sat at the next table while I had my morning cappuccino in Dock Square (and invariably said good morning) said (to the owner, not me) that he was leaving (yesterday) and his brother George was coming to take his place. (I merely said good morning and didn't mention our close proximity to the Bush family).
That's it for the story but it is quite certain various Bushes will be eating from the very same package of hot dogs you did!
I love that last line.
So what's your favorite minor celebrity encounter? Come on. Drop some names, people. It's Sunday. God loves that.
