The computer upon which I am writing this (a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop) is on its death bead. And rather than call in the hospice people and whisper to it that it's okay to let go, I keep trying to eke one ... last ... activity ... out of its mortal bits.

This resulted in yesterday's deletion of the 250 pictures from Gus's seventh birthday weekend as well as this morning's highly entertaining (and hilarious! I'm sorry you missed it!) post about the ubiquity of macaroons and book characters named LEXI(!).

The jist of the post was this:

Macaroons! Macaroons! Macaroons!

Not that I have anything negative to say about macaroons. They are beautiful and delicious (and often pink!), and I could eat a whole string-tied pastry box of them, but I won't read six sentences of a book if the main character's name is LEXI(!). Lexi is the novelist's shorthand for "spunky and driven yet deep (and often brooding over a difficult secret from her past)". It is also shorthand for "this author has no imagination and/or secretly pines for a cute pigtailed daughter she can name LEXI."

GO HAVE A DAUGHTER. NAME YOUR MAIN CHARACTER EDITH.

Edith is a great name. If you can de-Bunkerize it in your mind and just hear it for what it is .. it's so pretty. Edith. (Discuss.)

I'm going to stop typing now, because my computer has no memory left and will probably crash any minute and WE ARE GETTING A NEW ONE THIS WEEKEND! Speaking of which, what do you recommend? Can't afford a Mac even though (I know) they are WAY cooler and more beautiful and superior in every way (if they were cookies they would be macaroons). Oh! See what I just did there? MACaroons (ha!) (oh dear!) (really finding myself amusing this morning!); I use a mac at work, but we will probably get a desktop PC because when it comes to money ME LIKE LEFTOVERS. Also, we will all be using this computer, and "we" are not the most gentle creatures. (Discuss.)
