This flood business is crazy. When I drove to work yesterday, I got my first glimpse of the riverfront, which usually looks like this:

But now looks like this.

This photo is from a slideshow of images you can see at WSIX.com.

And then there's the mall at Opry Mills, which--according to a mother I know who owns a business there--has seven feet of water inside.

Three teachers from Patrick's school live in the same heavily hit subdivision in Bellevue, and may have lost their homes completely. Adding insult to injury, few people carry flood insurance in Nashville. We don't. Although we might get some now that we've been bailing our basement out for 17 hours. What if it had rained another day?

Natural disasters give me a nervous feeling (Really, Amanda? Natural disasters give you a nervous feeling? High fructose corn syrup gives you a nervous feeling. Too many clothes hangers give you a nervous feeling. Getting out of bed in the morning gives you a nervous feeling. The list goes on and on ...)

But natural disasters? Always strike me as a SIGN. A sign that the world is off kilter. That we need to shift. Run to the other side. Balance out this ride.

And then THAT makes me nervous, because if I have that feeling, then other people have that feeling. And they're probably blaming it on the President.

People are blaming Obama for everything now. It's out of control."Isn't it STRANGE how I never got hemorrhoids before OBAMA took office? And now my sphincter is a hot holy mess. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS GUY?" If I hear one more word about "These Obama People" and how they are "Destroying our country" I am going to rip my face off and feed it to the squirrels.

But I'll save the politics for my political blog: The Squirrel Feed. (Which does not exist. Yet.)

IN HAPPIER NEWS! The May issue of Her Nashville is out. Pick up a copy IN THE PINK BINS (THAT ARE NOT SUBMERGED IN WATER) orread my humor column right here, online at HerNashville.com, where it's dry.
