It's astounding to me the lengths (or non-lengths, I should say) we go to in this country to trick ourselves into feeling athletic.
Running 26 miles over the course of a month and saying you completed a "progressive marathon" is like saying you type 90 words a minute but it takes you an hour. It's like going to five or six barbecues a year over the course of your lifetime and then dubbing yourself the world's hot dog eating champion.
At the risk of repeating myself, the thing that makes the marathon interesting/challenging/worth mentioning is that YOU RUN THE WHOLE THING AT ONCE. When you spread it out over the course of several weeks? That's what we call e-x-e-r-c-i-s-e.
