I knew he was experimenting. I could tell just by looking at him. But the changes were so subtle ... and the evidence so carefully hidden, there was no way for me to be sure.
When I asked him, point blank, he'd deny he was doing anything and run laughing into another room.
My mother's instinct told me something was amiss.
A mother always knows. Regardless of whether she wants to believe.
"All children experiment like this," I comforted myself. "I should be glad he's being so careful."
But last night ...
He went too far.
"I did it when you were out on your run, and Daddy was on the compuuuuuter."
Gus's verdict: "He looks really cute, though. Doesn't he, Mom?"
Of course he does. Patrick could color in his entire face with a red Sharpie and make you rethink your stance on Satan (Funny little red guy! Kind of adorable.). And yet, my preference is still DON'T DO THAT.
Now the question remains:
A) Let it grow out
B) Shorten it up all around to (sort of) level the playing field, or
C) Get the boy a buzz cut and start all over
